Cantonal Agency for Attracting Investment and Privatization is a specialized organization of Sarajevo Canton. The head office of the agency is located in Sarajevo.
The agency represents a central spot in Sarajevo Canton to which potential and existing investors, both foreign and local, are directed to for all information related to the business environment, competitive advantages, and investment possibilities in Sarajevo Canton, as well as support during the realization of the investments and post-investment assistance.
The agency performs professional tasks, as well as other related administrative tasks determined by laws and other regulations referring to the support in attracting investments, privatization, coordination, and the use of EU, international, and local funds at Cantonal level.
Within its scope of activity in the field of investment attraction support, the agency conducts activities to support the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the relevant ministries in the Canton during the process of attracting, helping, and encouraging foreign and local investments for foreign and local investors. The agency further acts in coordinating institutions at the cantonal and local level collaborating with institutions at the Federal and State level in the field of local and foreign investments.
As part of its activity in the field of privatization, the agency organizes and encourages the privatization of business entities in the area of Sarajevo Canton, and all other activities related to the privatization of state-owned companies and properties in Sarajevo Canton.
Additionally, the agency carries out the coordination of tasks related to applying for the utilization of EU funds and establishing cooperation with EU funds and other funds with the approval of relevant ministries.
Over the past years, the agency has undertaken significant work in privatization, where it still holds a significant role. Additionally, they have initiated important activities in the field of Passive Sub-Balance and assets located in the countries of the region that have not yet been returned to the owners. Regarding the attraction of foreign investments, it has been assessed that there is significant room for improvement. It could be useful and necessary to have a single point of contact with potential investors. Thus, the development of a comprehensive action plan is underway.
Concurrently, we have already undertaken a series of activities and established contacts with investors that we believe will result in an increase of foreign investments and their faster realization.
- We expect that on the foundations and connections we establish and renew very
visible economic results will be seen in the upcoming period and in different developmental fields, especially in those where our canton has significant potential and comparative advantages. Of course, we aren’t pleased with the current dynamics of foreign investment flow. In the existing political and economic circumstances, we have invested tremendous efforts to create a framework and an atmosphere which will attract, not drive away investors – stated Adnan Jašarević, the director of the agency.
The agency established significant contacts with potential investors in a very short period of time. There is a large interest of investors in different economic sectors, seeing as they recognized the active policy of attracting investments and facilitating their realizations. Following the saying ‘capital is a coward’, and the fact that it only goes where it feels sufficiently safe, the agency does everything it can within the bounds of law to provide safety and open doors for investments.
“We have a very promising political and economic perspective and great potential. With the support of the Government of the Sarajevo Canton, we are only just beginning a proactive approach where we will not only wait for investments to come, but we will act systematically to attract them and promote our economic and investment potentials. We have the necessary capacities. There is the will, energy, and knowledge to change the paradigm and bring forward a new approach,” highlighted the director of the agency.
